Salma Hayek went from being a difficult student in Catholic schools to becoming one of the greatest actresses.  Not only has Salma dominated the television and film industry in America, but she has also dominated in Mexico as well.

Salma was born in Mexico.  Her father was an oil executive and her mother was an opera singer.  Her family had money.  Salma’s family moved to Grand Coutu Louisiana where Salma attended Catholic school and  was a very good gymnast.  She had aspirations of getting the Olympics.  Salma was a very free spirit.  She was kicked out of Catholic school for what the sisters stated, “behavioral problems.”   Salma returned to Mexico and was soon returned to live with her aunt in Houston Texas.  She stayed there until she was seventeen.  Those were not the end of Salma’s behavioral problems according to her family.  Salma went to College in Mexico City where she studied international relations.  Her family was very upset when Salma quit college to pursue a career in acting.  Salma had to do it anyway, she felt that it was her calling.

Salma had some difficulty with her fluency of the English language but that did not stop her.  When she got to Hollywood, she began studying acting under Stella Adler, hoping to make it big.  Finally Robert Rodriguez and his wife, the producer, Elizabeth Avellan gave Salma her big break starring opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995’s Desperado.  After Desperado, Salma starred in other films such as Dogma, Wild, wild, West, From Dust Til Dawn, and Traffic.

Salma decided it would be a good idea to start her own production company.  She started the company in 1999 and through it she produces several movies and television.

During her acting career, Salma has been nominated and has also won several awards.  Her first award nomination was for 1999’s El Coronel No Tiene Quien La Elscriba.  This was Mexico’s official choice for The Best Foreign Film at that years Oscars.  Later, Salma earned the Best Actress Award for her role in Frida, at the Academy Awards.  Salma later produced and directed a Showtime movie called The Maldanado Miracle.  For this movie, Salma won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Direction of a Children/Youth/Family movie.  Salma’s most recent winning project is Ugly Betty, a television series which airs on ABC.  Salma is the executive producer of this television show and she also guest stars in it.  It has not been running long and has already won a Golden Globe Award for The Best Comedy Series in 2007.

Salma may have had her problems behaving while growing up, but as an adult Salma is very dedicated, professional, and disciplined.
